Scientific research work is actively carried out at the Department of International Law. Organized and held annual scientific and practical events timed to the celebration of memorable dates of the UN, anniversaries of the 70th anniversary (October 29-30, 2015) and the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (October 30, 2020), the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on human rights (November 23, 2018), 20th anniversary and 25th anniversary of L.N. Gumilyov ENU, the 20th anniversary of the ENU Faculty of Law (2018-2019), the 10th anniversary of the specialized Department of International Law of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU (2018), celebrations of UN memorable dates (International Day of Human Rights, International Day of Forests, World Day of Water Resources), anniversaries of leading scientists of the department. So, the annual scientific events are the Scientific and Practical School on the topic: "Actual problems of theory, practice and teaching of international law", a round table / scientific and practical conference dedicated to the International Day of Human Rights.
The teaching staff of the department participates in many republican and foreign scientific events. The department carries out a large amount of research work, including fundamental research on grants from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of international public and international private law; European law; the rights of the CIS and other regional associations; comparative jurisprudence; interaction of international, regional and national law; in the judiciary; constitutional law; history of political and legal thought, state and law. The department has developed and published a number of textbooks, monographs, hundreds of articles and other scientific and methodological works.
The teaching staff of the Department of International Law actively publishes articles in international journals indexed in the Scopus database, journals recommended by the Committee to ensure control in the field of education and science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition, textbooks, educational and teaching aids are published.
In 2013, the first textbook of international law in the history of Kazakhstan was published in two volumes, in the preparation of which 26 leading scientists and specialists in the field of international law of Kazakhstan and Russia took part: Международное право: Общая часть / Отв. ред. А.Х. Абашидзе, Е.М. Абайдельдинов. – Воронеж: Наука-Юнипресс, 2013. – 650 с.; Международное право: Особенная часть / Отв. ред. А.Х. Абашидзе, Е.М. In 2016, a two-volume edition of international law was published in the Kazakh language and was recognized as one of the 20 best works for the 20th anniversary of the ENU named after I. L.N. Gumilyov.
The staff of the Department of International Law published joint six training manuals "Workshop on Public International Law", "Reader on Public International Law" in 2016 and "Selected Cases in International Law" in 2019 under the general editorship of Sh.V. Tlepina. In 2019-2020, six training manuals were published.
From 2016 to 2019 under the editorship of Doctor of Law, Professor Sh.V. Tlepina published the collection "Scientific Works of the Department of International Law", which in 2020 was renamed into the Eurasian Yearbook of International Law. This collection includes the works of teachers and doctoral students of the department, Kazakhstani and foreign scientists on topical issues in the field of international law.
On the basis of the department, there are student scientific clubs and circles: The Scientific Research Club "History of International Law" and the Scientific Research Club "International lawyer's club". The activities of the research circle "History of International Law" is conducted under the guidance of Doctor of Law, professor Sh.V. Tlepina. Since 2016, under the guidance and editorship of Doctor of Law, Professor Sh.V. Tlepina. published "Collection of works of students and undergraduates. From the history of law and legal science ", which presents the scientific publications of students, members of the research circle and research club.
Scientific Research club "International lawyer's club" was organized at the Department of International Law in October 2015. Its grand opening took place on October 30, 2015. The head of the club is the senior teacher of the department Akshalova R.D. The president of the club is a 4th course student of the specialty "International Law" Turmakhan Anel. Members of the club are students of the specialty "International Law": students, undergraduates and doctoral students of all courses.
According to the results of the Republican Subject Olympiad in International Law among students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, L.N. Gumilyov ENU students of the specialty "International Law" took first places from 2010-2014, 2019; second place from 2015-2018.
