Online Session of Young Researchers’ Council with Foreign Professor

On December 23, 2020, the Faculty of Philology hosted another online session of the Young Researchers’ Council in an unusual format. The online meeting was attended by a foreign professor from Poland, PhD, Professor of the Faculty of English and American Studies, the University of Gdansk Dorota Sylwia Majewicz.

The first online lecture of the professor was held on November 25, 2020 at the previous session of the Young Researchers’ Council of the Faculty of Philology, where Dorota Sylwia Majewicz touched upon such issues that are relevant to young researchers as the academic style of scientific text, plagiarism, autoplagiarism and citation in scientific papers. Members of the Faculty YRC became interested in the professors lecture and invited her to the December session, which was held according to the plan on December 23, 2020 on the MS Teams platform.

At the second meeting with young ENU researchers, the foreign professor dwelled on such topical issues as the academic writing style, key features of academic discourse and work with bibliography. Of particular interest was the material presented by the professor online on work with the EBSCO information service, which is a large complex of research databases with full text information. This database can be used by representatives of different research interests and qualifications.

The lecture of the foreign professor was held at a high organizational and scientific level. Participants of the online meeting of the Young Researchers’ Council of the Faculty of Philology asked the professor questions, gave their examples of using information platforms and databases, and thanked the lecturer for the valuable information that they can further use in the implementation of their research work.

The cooperation with Professor Dorota Sylwia Majewicz began in January 2020, when she visited ENU with a course of lectures on academic writing at the Department of theory and practice of foreign languages. Dr. Mayevich took an active part in the ENU international conference on online technologies in September 2020. It is also planned to invite Professor Majewicz to give lectures to masters of the specialty "7M01719-a Foreign language: two foreign languages” in September and October 2021. Currently, active negotiations are underway with the Professor.
