Students and senior lecturer of the Department of International Law took part in the international webinar

On September 20, 2022, 4th year Bachelor degree students, 1st year Master degree students of the specialty "International Law", PhD, Senior lecturer of the Department of International Law, Akshalova R.D. at the invitation of a foreign professor, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of International Law of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (Moscow, Russia)Alexander Solncev Mikhailovich took part in a webinar on the topic: "The Human Right to a Clean, Healthy and Sustainable environment" under the guidance of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Bharat D. Desai.

The webinar, conducted by the journal Environmental Policy and Law (EPL) together with the International Council for Environmental Law and the International Union for Nature Conservation, was attended by well-known scientists, experts and practitioners in the field of international environmental law. Among them were E. Brown Weiss, K. Singh, N. Robinson, V. Tafur, F. Kalle, J. Ebbesson and others.

The webinar discussed the adopted UN General Assembly Resolution 76/300 of July 28, 2022 on the recognition of the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. During the presentations and discussions, the participants of the webinar noted the importance of this document and the human right to a clean environment as a universal element. They drew attention to the compliance of States with treaty obligations in the field of international environmental law. Also, the participants at the webinar analyzed the actions of states in the field of ecology at the level of national legislation and judicial practice.

In the future, the results of the webinar were discussed at the classes of a foreign professor of the Department of International Law, Solntsev A.M. in the discipline "International environmental law" with 4th-year students and in the discipline "International environmental Justice" with 1st-year Master degree students. The students expressed their opinion about the stated conclusions and proposals, as well as their impressions of participation in this event.
