On March 27, 2021 Suleiman Demirel University held the first republic mock trial “SDU MOOT COURT CUP-2021”. The moot court was held online on Discord.
Teams from 14 universities around Kazakhstan, such as Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, KIMEP, Caspian University, Kostanay Regional University, took part in the event.
The team of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University was represented by the 3rd year International Law students Niyazov Marat, Zhanadilov Akylbek, as well as the 2nd year International Law postgraduate student Mukhametzhan Nurzhan.
The instructors of the team were Zh.T. Iskakova, senior lecturer at the Department of International Law, and Kamatova D.M., lecturer at the Department of International Law.
Each team took part in court proceedings where it represented the interests of either the plaintiff or the defendant. The trials were conducted in Kazakh, Russian and English. The arbitrators were represented by lawyers from such law firms as Grata, Synergy Partners, Integrites, etc.
Participation in such competitions is a unique experience for students, where they can try on the roles of real participants in the trial and demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Practicing lawyers in the role of arbitrators not only evaluated the performances of the participants, but also gave advice, recommendations, and shared their experience.
The team of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University represented the defendant in the Russian league. The students were awarded certificates upon their participation in SDU MOOT COURT CUP-2021. We sincerely congratulate our students and wish them success in the competition next year!
