Seminar on discipline "Issues of territories in international law"

 On March 2, 2018, a group of 2nd course, IL (r)-24 on discipline "Issues of territories in international law", teacher Kostyanaya Yu.S., held a seminar in the form of a meeting of the Arctic Council’s members. The main subject was the issue of the Arctic’s future development, the claims of the states to a part of this territory and the current situation. The students acted as representatives of the Arctic Council. There are eight states.

During the meeting, was discussed the question of dividing the Lomonosov Ridge between Russian Federation and Canada; Finland offered the Russian Federation cooperation in many areas with a view to further development of the Arctic. Students in the role of representatives of Sweden and Norway touched upon environmental problems and suggested the further development of this region considering the specifics of Arctic. The USA said that the territory of the Arctic should remain a peaceful territory, without the deployment of weapons and military bases.

Conducting seminars in this format contributes not only to the study of new material by students, but also to the analysis and suggestion of certain actions to address the issues raised.
