May 17-18, 2017 in Nazarbayev University an international seminar was held. Development of research potential of universities in Kazakhstan: training in research and management of PhD theses.

The objectives of the seminar:

To familiarize the participants with the experience of the European Union in implementing doctoral studies (PhD) programs in universities and enrich their theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of formation and development of scientific potential;

to develop recommendations for improving the teaching of the methodology of research and the level of the management of dissertations in the universities of Kazakhstan.

Participants of the seminar were: PhD students of universities of Kazakhstan, scientific leaders of doctoral candidates, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, experts in reforming higher education (NK ERVO).

The seminar was held at the Higher School of Education of Nazarbayev University.

At the seminar, Aida Sagintayeva - dean of the Higher School of Education of Nazarbayev University; Shaizada Tasbulatova - coordinator of the National Office Erasmus + (NEO) in Kazakhstan; Sulushas Kerimkulova is a member of the NK ERWO, associate professor at the Higher School of Nazarbayev University.

With the message Modern trends and best practices in the formation of scientific potential through the PhD program in European universities, Ella Ritchie, a European expert, emerit professor at the University of Newcastle of Great Britain, spoke.

It was interesting to work in groups:

Group 1. How to teach the research at the level of postgraduate education - moderator Duyshon Shamatov, associate professor, Higher School of Education, Nazarbayev University.

Group 2 - How to conduct research - moderator Sulushash Kerimkulova, expert on higher education reform, associate professor, Higher School of Education, Nazarbayev University.

Group 3 - How to manage research PhD doctoral students - moderator Ali Ait Si Mhamed, associate professor, Higher School of Education, Nazarbayev University.

In the plenary session "Achievements and problems in the formation of scientific potential through PhD programs in universities of Kazakhstan", the head of the International Law Department, Sh. Tlepina. She spoke about the experience of implementing the educational program of doctoral PhD at the Department of International Law of the Eurasian National University named after LN. Gumilev. She spoke about the problems of the PhD program and the ways of solving them within the framework of the department and the university.
