A scientific seminar was held at the Law Faculty on the topic “Status of the Caspian Sea:the outcomes of the Aktau Summit”

October 9, 2018 at the Law Faculty of the Eurasian National University. L.N. Gumilyov held a Scientific seminar with the participation of students and faculty of the Faculty of Law on the topic "Status of the Caspian Sea: the outcomes of the Aktau Summit." The lecturer of the Department of International Law, Master of Laws Karazhan B.S. and Lecturer of the Department of International Law, Master of Laws Yelegen A.E. were the main speakers of the meeting.

The main topic of the presentations was the result of the Aktau Summit, at which the Convention on the Status of the Caspian Sea was signed by the heads of the Caspian countries. The Aktau Summit concluded many years of negotiations to determine the status of the Caspian Sea. From now, the legal status of the Caspian Sea is clearly defined in this Convention.

After the presentations of the main speakers, the workshop participants shared their views on the status of the Caspian Sea, its importance for the country and its future. The first to take the floor was the head of the department of International law, Doctor of Law, Professor TlepinaSh.V. According to her, the Caspian Sea is not only just a sea or a lake, it really has great significance for the Caspian states. She also noted that experts from other fields, in particular ecologists and biologists, can even be invited to discuss this topic, since the topic is in contact with the range of interests of specialists in natural sciences. She also noticed that the speakers addressed the issue from a historical and legal perspective as well.

From among the students, a 4th year student, a group of ХҚқ-21 of the Department of International Law, a native of the city of Aktau, Saki Kymbat, shared her impressions of this meeting. She noted the importance of the Aktau Summit for her city.

The final word was presented to the Scientific secretary of this seminar, Ph.D., associate professor of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional Law OrmanovaSh.Sh.. She noted that the topic is relevant and is confident that this topic can serve as a basis for future research.

In general, the seminar met the expected results. All participants actively exchanged views and a discussion took place. At the end of the scientific seminar the participants made a general photo.
