Lecture "The right to a fair trial"

On the 25th of November at 11:00 at the room 324 within the framework of the III Scientific and Practical School of the Department of International Law of the Faculty of Law "Actual Problems of the Theory and Practice of International Law", Beert Maan - a judge in retire of the Dutch Court of Appeal conducted a lecture in English "The right to a fair trial".

Students majoring in "International Law" had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the Dutch judicial system with the help of an outstanding practice and experienced judge B. Maan. He worked in the Dutch judiciary system in various positions during his long career. As a judge of a district court working in various disciplines (family, civil, commercial, bankruptcy), he became vice-president in Breda, and then president of the Zwolle-Lelystad court. Later he worked as a judge in the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. Throughout his career as a magistrate, Bert Maan served as a consultant or director in short-term and long-term technical assistance projects in the judiciary around the world, in particular, in countries accessing the EU in Eastern Europe.

He was a permanent expert of the EU / Council of Europe Joint Program on Strengthening the Judiciary in Ukraine and Turkey. The main issues of concern are human rights (article 2,3,5,6,10 of the ECHR), the judiciary management, the measurement of the workload, budgeting for the judiciary, judicial and management training, the judiciary and the media , as well as judicial ethics.

During the lecture, the Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights - the right to a fair trial and its application in practice - in the Netherlands and partly in the Republic of Kazakhstan was considered in detail.
